The setting: inside a hotel corridor, in front of room 303. Agent Smith has emptied his magazine into Neo's chest, killing him. Neo is down, but, outside the Matrix, in the Nebuchadnezzar, Trinity whispers to him that she believes he is the One and kisses him.

Suddenly, Neo wakes up. Like Sleeping Beauty —a reference here to a fairy tale, with Neo as principal character. 

Resurrection.

Like Jesus. 
Like a "savior", born again to save the human race, to redeem Zion —another biblical reference. He is the man announced by the prophecy.
Hasn't the oracle said that he would have to wait for his next life...?

Neo slowly stands up. But he does not seem very surprised to see himself alive. The ones who are stunned are certainly the three agents. There is also a man who is relieved to see the confirmation of his good choice: Morpheus.
